Tom Flora bio

B i o

Upon meeting Tom the one thing you would say is versatility.  He is just that. Born in Manhattan, KS and raised in a ministers home all his life. Tom spent the majority of his childhood in mid Missouri.  As a ministers son he was singing in church at the very young age of five. He then was given a snare drum at 8 and a drum set at 9 and rhythm has always been in his makeup.

At the age of 11 he picked up his brother's guitar and learned it on a Saturday night and played it the next day in church service. His parents knew then they had a very talented child.

At the age of 12 Tom learned trombone with a few lessons Then, at 13, is where bass came in. His parents bought his brother a bass guitar and Tom sat down with that and practiced it for 4 to 5 hours a night for around 6 months straight.  He was determined to be the best bass player he could be.  He was offered at 13 to go on the road with a southern gospel group and his parents said no. So at the age of 15 a group in his church asked him to play with them and his parents allowed him to finally. Tom played for about 6 - 7 years with The Lighthouse Simgers and his family moved again.

Tom also plays trumpet, trombone sax and some piano.

Tom has also played with Fiddlers Palace Music show at Lake of the Ozarks. And relocated to Kansas City in 2000. In Kansas City he has played with various local bands Hazard County, J.D. Summers Band, The Scott Ford Band and Interstate 49.  Also shared the stage with various Texas red dirt and Nashville artists such as Jamey Johnson,  Ely Young Band, Jason Boland, Bleu Edmondson, Jackson Taylor, Cory Morrow and many others. He has also played for Universal recording artist Josh Thompson as well as unsigned Brentwood artist Chad Gentry.
